Madagascan raffia is hand plaited to create our signature Raffia Braid. This material is innately pliant, supple and offers a natural water resistance which delivers a durable resilience to prevent cracking and brittleness over time. Our unique process combines technology with traditional methods; raffia is first hand selected before being dyed to a Helen Kaminski hue, the craftsperson secures the top of the raffia to a surface, then hand-crafts the braid as they follow it, walking backwards, to the enormous lengths required for each style. In order to ensure a continuous finish, the craftsperson gradually feeds new strands into the plait so that no joins are visible to the eye. We do not recommend allowing a style to be submerged in water. To clean, do not use any harsh chemical or dry clean, simply wipe with a damp cloth. Variations in raffia braid styles are an indication of the unique and authentic character of each handmade piece.
